Powering Soudley’s Solar Future

A community solar project designed to secure the long-term future of Soudley Village Hall has hit an unexpected obstacle, leaving half of its newly installed solar panels unable to operate.

The system, switched on in March 2026 after years of volunteer effort and successful grant fundraising, includes 48 solar panels. However, only 24 can currently be connected due to limitations in the village’s electricity supply.

To safely use the full system, a three-phase power upgrade and transformer installation are required. We have been informed that only the National Grid can perform these works at a quoted cost of £50,000 plus VAT.

Attempts to secure additional grants and government support have so far been unsuccessful, leaving the village hall with no option but to launch a public fundraising campaign.

If completed, the upgrade will allow the solar installation to generate vital income for the village hall, reduce energy costs, and significantly cut the building’s carbon footprint.

We are now asking for donations and your support to help complete the final stage of the project and unlock the full potential of the community’s investment in renewable energy.

If you are a UK taxpayer, your donation will qualify for Gift Aid, allowing us to claim an extra 25p for every £1 that you kindly give.

We thank you for your valued support.
